Homage to the Mille Miglia: the race, the drivers, the watch.
“The sun had just begun to rise over the Italian landscape in 1955 as the Mille Miglia endurance race was in full swing. Stirling Moss, a fearless 25-year-old British driver, gripped the steering wheel of his Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR, with his co-driver Denis Jenkinson signaling upcoming turns with precision. The road climbed steeply through the treacherous Cisa Pass, lined with jagged rocks and precipitous drops. Moss downshifted smoothly, navigating sharp bends with tenacity. Emerging from a hairpin turn, Moss glanced at the breathtaking valley below, but the race demanded his full attention. The Cisa Pass was a gauntlet, testing speed, nerve, and skill. Moss and Jenkinson’s synchronized efforts exemplified the pinnacle of teamwork, blending human and mechanical precision.
Fast forward to 1988. Chopard, inspired by the iconic race, introduced the first Mille Miglia wristwatch, capturing the race’s essence with precision engineering and elegant design. The watch symbolized the enduring spirit of the race, honoring drivers like Moss and their relentless pursuit of excellence. With its sleek design and robust functionality, the Chopard Mille Miglia watch became a cherished item for enthusiasts, a reminder of the race’s glory. Moss and Jenkinson’s legacy lived on, with each tick of the watch paying tribute to the synergy of man and machine, the thrill of the open road, and the pursuit of perfection the Mille Miglia represented, forever etched in time.”
